Saudi AI company Humane to unveil Arabic version of ChatGPT by August's finale
By the end of August 2025, the Saudi Arabian artificial intelligence (AI) company Humane is set to launch an Arabic-language version of ChatGPT, called ALLaM. This groundbreaking model has been developed entirely by a Saudi team and is designed to serve Arabic speakers, including support for local dialects.
Humane's ambitious goals for this launch extend beyond just providing a powerful Arabic AI conversational agent. The company aims to achieve valuation parity with leading global AI firms, making a global impact in AI. Additionally, they seek to support Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by diversifying the economy, localizing technology, and building advanced digital infrastructure.
The company aspires to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in AI, shifting from oil dependency to a knowledge-based economy and developing foundational AI infrastructure from the ground up. This includes creating AI models with deep local cultural and political understanding, enabled by proprietary datasets developed completely within Saudi Arabia by a team of about 40 PhD researchers.
The ALLaM model will be launched via a free app called “Humane Chat,” providing ChatGPT-like capabilities optimized for Arabic speakers across dialects and regional specifics. Humane also plans to develop an integrated AI ecosystem beyond just the chatbot, including partnerships for AI hardware, an AI enterprise operating system launching in October, and a Saudi-designed AI computer.
Tareq Amin, the CEO of Humane, believes in the capability of Saudi engineers and leaders, referring to them as "astonishingly capable." He emphasizes that Humane's ambition is not just local, but global, implying a desire for international expansion. Amin's mission is to encourage and empower Saudi talent in the field of AI.
Artificial intelligence plays a critical role in realizing Vision 2030, particularly in diversifying the economy and building advanced digital infrastructure. The strategic importance of data localization has been noted, with recent investments by AWS and Microsoft paving the way for large-scale data centers to be built inside the Kingdom.
Humane's AI models are designed to cater to both domestic and global users, and the company aspires to sell its AI models globally. The ultimate goal is to rank among the top five global data center operators. Humane believes it has the talent, resources, and drive to achieve its global ambitions.
With the launch of ALLaM, Humane aims not only to provide a powerful Arabic AI conversational agent but also to foster broad AI ecosystem development aligned with the Kingdom’s economic transformation plans.
Technology will play a significant role in Humane's global ambition, as they plan to develop an integrated AI ecosystem beyond just the chatbot, including AI hardware, an AI enterprise operating system, and a Saudi-designed AI computer.
In the health sector, Humane's AI models, including ALLaM, are designed to cater to both domestic and global users, with the ultimate goal of ranking among the top five global data center operators. This alignment with Vision 2030 could potentially revolutionize the healthcare industry in Saudi Arabia by leveraging insights from artificial intelligence.
