Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Returns with Timed Challenges

Get ready, gamers! The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is back, bringing with it a nostalgic twist on competitive gaming. This edition, available for the Nintendo Switch, is inspired by the original 1990 Nintendo World Championships competition and features a selection of classic NES games.

Each week, players can participate in timed online events in both World Championship Mode and Survival Modes. The core games for the timed challenge format are Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Rad Racer, and Tetris, reflecting the original 1990 contest format.

In World Championship Mode, players can compete with friends or players worldwide, aim for personal bests, and strive for the top spot on the leaderboards in rotating weekly challenges. Up to 8 players can enjoy Party Mode on a single system, with the option to compete individually or in themed Challenge packs. An automatic rewind feature is available for new players in Party Mode.

Completing challenges earns in-game coins that can be used to unlock more challenges and icons. The game features over 150 bite-sized challenges across NES system games, including classics like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and more. For those seeking a greater challenge, there are Legend Challenges for more difficult tasks.

Survival Mode allows players to race against the ghost data of seven other players. Players can use video clips as guides before starting a challenge, and they can find helpful tips and tricks for Legend Challenges in the Classified Information section. Players can also choose their division (Silver for easy, Gold for hard) in Survival Mode.

The first event is available from now until July 22 at 1:59 a.m. PT. With a Nintendo Switch Online membership, players can access the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game for home play.

So, dust off your controllers and get ready to compete in this exciting throwback to the world of classic gaming!
