Security Resilience Top Priority for Executives After Major Incidents

Security resilience has emerged as a top priority for executives, according to a recent survey. The shift comes in response to severe security incidents that have impacted businesses and their ecosystems. Helen Patton, an Advisory CISO at Cisco, shared these insights at the Cisco Live event in Melbourne on December 8, 2022.

Patton, who previously served as CISO at The Ohio State University and won the 2018 ISE North American Academic/Public Sector Executive of the Year award, highlighted the alarming statistic that 70% of organizations surveyed had experienced a security event impacting business in the past two years. She stressed the importance of security resilience, advocating for collaboration, diversity, and inclusion in the fields of security, privacy, and risk management.

Patton, who holds a Master's degree in Public Policy and various industry certifications, is also a faculty member for the Digital Director's Network and Educause Leadership Institute. She serves on multiple advisory boards, including CyberOhio and Manufacturing and Digital USA Cybersecurity Advisory Board.

Helen Patton's insights at the Cisco Live event underscore the pressing need for robust security resilience strategies. With a significant number of businesses affected by security incidents, organizations must prioritise security and foster collaborative, diverse, and inclusive environments to mitigate risks effectively.
