Showcased Projects Spotlighted at ReVolution 2022 Competitions

In its 25th edition next year, the ReVolution competition showcases innovative virtual reality projects with a focus on young talent. The event highlights cutting-edge technologies and offers international exposure for selected projects. During the 2022 event, four winning projects were announced from a pool of numerous candidates.

Unveiling Virtual Reality Prodigies

The ultimate objective of the ReVolution competition since its inception is to discover upcoming virtual reality talents. Emerging actors get the opportunity to participate in an international event, offering an exhibition booth to showcase their work.

For the 2022 edition, the competition was divided into four categories that catered to researchers, startups, students, and upcoming innovators.

Research - The Human Mountainification Project (Kyoto Sangyo University)

The Human Mountainification project utilizes haptic technology, allowing users to feel natural events on a simulated mountain. A glove worn by one participant is connected to a model of a mountain, while another operator manipulates the model to create rain or other environmental effects. As a result, the user feels various sensations, such as coolness or vibrations, simulating the weather on the mountain. The glove was designed by the students themselves and can adjust temperature and create various vibrations.

Startups - Avatar Medical

Avatar Medical specializes in improving medical imagery by creating 3D avatars of patients for doctors. This assists medical professionals in better understanding and visualizing medical images, helping them accurately identify tumors and contribute to their treatment strategies. The created avatars are pedagogically useful for students and patients alike.

Students - Demo - Celestrail (Isart Digital)

Students from the ISART Digital school developed a visually appealing and immersive virtual reality game centering around problem-solving. This innovative game whisks players into a mysterious, timeless universe where riddles must be solved using a bow and arrow. A calm and focused mind are essential for success in this captivating adventure.

Students - Limited Time - ESIR & Scalian

The 2022 hackathon, themed around "Desirable Energy Sobriety," saw the ESIR & Scalian team create a virtual reality application that visually demonstrates the impact of our choices on the planet. Users play the role of a city mayor, making decisions about personal and urban energy consumption. Afterward, they are transported to the year 2100, showing the result of their choices on the environment. The team drew inspiration from official reports such as the GEIC, ensuring accuracy and credibility.

The 2023 edition of the ReVolution competition will occur in April, marking another milestone for the event. An additional category, #Experiences, will be introduced for production studios, content creators, and developers.
