Preparing for the NextGen TV Revolution: An Interoperability Event by Sinclair and ONE Media Technologies

Sinclair to convene NextGen TV Interoperability gathering for ONE Media platform

Gear up for the future of television as Sinclair and ONE Media Technologies, in collaboration with Pearl TV, host an interoperability test event from June 3-6 at their headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

More than 30 industry heavyweights, representing various sectors such as encoder manufacturers, transmitter manufacturers, receiver manufacturers, and others, will come together to test their devices' compatibility and resolve interoperability issues. This collaborative effort will significantly speed up the transition to NextGen TV, the future of broadcast television, reported the organizers.

NextGen TV, based on the ATSC 3.0 standard, is the next big leap for the broadcast television industry, and ensuring a seamless transition is paramount. Sinclair's Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology and President of ONE Media Technologies, Mark Aitken, stated,

To ensure the success of this venture, the event will also focus on testing various Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems to guarantee smooth, unhindered use of NextGen TV. Previous concerns regarding DRM's potential limitation of high-quality content access have been put to rest as various DRM permutations have been showcased to work harmoniously together. [1][2]

Another significant aspect of the event is a cloud-based air chain deployment technology. This technology, initially demonstrated at NAB Show, is now being used for interoperability testing for the first time. This technology represents a significant stride in deploying NextGen TV services efficiently. [2]

The event underscores the importance of industry collaboration, with manufacturers, vendors, and broadcasters working together to ensure NextGen TV devices and services are universally compatible. This collaboration is vital for delivering an exceptional viewer experience, expediting the adoption of NextGen TV, and ultimately guaranteeing its widespread success. [4]
