Social media platform Instagram has officially launched the long-anticipated feature users have been eagerly anticipating
Instagram Introduces New Repost Feature for Transparent Content Sharing
Instagram has officially launched a new repost feature, allowing users to reshare public Reels and feed posts directly to their followers' main feeds while giving automatic credit to the original poster.
To use the repost feature, simply update your Instagram app to the latest version and look for the new repost icon (two circular arrows forming a square) below a post or Reel. Tap the icon, then optionally tap your profile icon to add a comment before confirming the repost. The reposted content will appear in followers’ feeds with the original creator credited, and also in a dedicated "Reposts" tab on the user’s profile for easy access to all shared content [1][2][5].
Users have the option to add their own text overlay or note that appears floating over the repost when viewed by followers, allowing them to add personal thoughts or context [1][2][5]. To remove a repost, hold down its thumbnail in the "Reposts" tab and select "Delete Repost" [1].
This new feature replaces the older workaround of sharing posts via Stories or screenshots and is designed to make content sharing more transparent and creator-friendly on Instagram [2][3].
Instagram is also introducing a new feature called Friends that will appear in the Reels hub. Friends on Instagram will show all the content with interaction from your friends and online acquaintances [4]. The repost feature is accessible while viewing Reels, with a new icon on the right edge of the screen [3].
Content on Instagram Map will be visible for 24 hours from the time it was originally shared. Users can choose to share their location with mutuals, Close Friends, and selected friends, and have the option to block location sharing from certain spots [6]. Users can also restrict selected accounts from viewing their location on Instagram Map [7].
Instagram Map draws inspiration from Snapchat and will show all kinds of content, such as Reels, posts, and stories [8]. The new repost feature and Instagram Map are part of Instagram's ongoing efforts to improve the user experience and foster a more engaging community on the platform.
