Space collaboration: Latvia and Ukraine join forces
In a significant step forward for space exploration, Latvia and Ukraine have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote scientific development and strengthen their roles in the global space sector.
The MoU was the outcome of discussions held between Jānis Paiders, the Acting State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science in Latvia, and Volodymyr Mikheiev, the Acting Head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine. The meeting, which took place recently, focused on peaceful space cooperation and joint projects.
Both countries aim to leverage this collaboration to expand their presence in the space sector. Ukraine, in particular, has expressed interest in Latvia's expertise and cooperation in science, research, and space entrepreneurship.
Jānis Paiders considers this step a significant one towards strengthening future space exploration cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine. He believes the MoU will lead to valuable innovations and serve as a testament to the ongoing collaboration between the two countries in space research.
Volodymyr Mikheiev, on the other hand, emphasised Ukraine's desire for Latvia's participation in joint space exploration projects. He also highlighted the history of collaboration between scientists and organisations from Ukraine and Latvia in space research.
As part of the MoU, both parties have agreed to organise joint webinars with higher education institutions and industry representatives to develop a cooperation action plan. However, the specific Latvian and Ukrainian organisations involved in this collaboration, as well as the detailed future space research projects, have not been disclosed in the available information.
This collaboration is expected to promote scientific development and strengthen the roles of both countries in the global space sector. It is a testament to their joint work and intent to expand this collaboration, marking an important milestone in the space exploration journey for both nations.
Latvia has shown its support for Ukraine in space exploration collaborations, signifying its commitment to peaceful space cooperation and joint projects. This MoU signifies a new era of cooperation between Ukraine and Latvia, opening up exciting opportunities for scientific advancement and innovation in the space sector.
