Simplified Aadhaar-UAN Linking and Correction Process by EPFO

The Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made significant strides in simplifying the process for linking Aadhaar with Universal Account Number (UAN) and correcting any mismatches between the two.

These changes, implemented in 2025, aim to make the process more efficient and user-friendly for EPFO members.

Correcting Mismatches

In cases where there is a mismatch in name, gender, or date of birth between the Aadhaar and UAN records, employers can rectify these discrepancies through the online Joint Declaration (JD) functionality. This digital process streamlines and speeds up the correction process.

Updating Wrong Aadhaar Numbers

If a wrong Aadhaar number has been linked to a UAN by mistake, the employer can update the correct Aadhaar via the JD system and then forward this request to the concerned Regional Office for approval.

No Employer, No Problem

In situations where the employer is not available or the establishment has closed, members can submit a physical Joint Declaration to update their Aadhaar details.

Exact Matches

If the member’s name, gender, and date of birth in UAN exactly match the Aadhaar details, then the member can directly approach the employer to seed Aadhaar under the KYC functionality without needing EPFO approval.

Streamlined Process

With these changes, the EPFO aims to reduce delays and dependence on manual approvals, making Aadhaar seeding and correction easier for EPFO members.

What is Aadhaar?

The Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to every Indian resident.

The EPFO's Vision

The EPFO is looking to make Aadhaar-UAN linking and corrections more efficient and user-friendly with these changes. By enabling employers to directly update details, the need for intermediation is reduced.

Simplified Profile Modifications

The EPFO has also simplified the process for members to modify their profile if their Aadhaar has been seeded and verified from UIDAI, eliminating the need for multiple approvals.

The Universal Account Number

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit number allotted to every member of the National Pension System (NPS) in India.

In light of the EPFO's simplified processes, discrepancies in finance-related data such as name, gender, or date of birth can be corrected through the online JD system, which utilizes technology to streamline and speed up the correction process. Furthermore, if a member's Aadhaar number has been incorrectly linked to their UAN, they can update the correct number via the JD system, demonstrating how the EPFO's defi-oriented market strategies are making Aadhaar-UAN linking and corrections more efficient and user-friendly for all members.
