Subaru to Launch Three New Electric Sports Utility Vehicles in 2026
Subaru has announced an exciting lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) for 2026, including the Uncharted, an electric subcompact crossover SUV, the updated Solterra, a larger compact electric SUV, and the much-anticipated E-Outback. These new models, along with their Toyota counterparts, offer impressive specifications and features.
Subaru Uncharted (2026)
The Uncharted is a smaller electric crossover SUV, nearly 7 inches shorter than the Solterra. It boasts a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the floor and comes in two trims: a base Premium with a single front-wheel motor producing 221 hp and an estimated range over 300 miles, and Sport and GT trims featuring dual motors (front and rear) with all-wheel drive, producing 338 hp and offering a 0-60 mph time of under 5 seconds, with an estimated range of up to 290 miles.
The Uncharted also features DC fast charging at 150 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes, aided by battery preconditioning. It has a 11-kW onboard charger for Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging, and is compatible with Tesla’s NACS charging network, giving it access to over 15,000 Supercharger stations.
Subaru's X-Mode Dual Mode with Grip Control ensures excellent traction and handling on slippery or uneven terrain, while the Uncharted's ground clearance is expected to be around 8.3 inches, competitive for electric crossovers. Cargo space exceeds 25 cubic feet behind the second row.
The Uncharted will be available in 2026, with production primarily focused on the AWD Sport and GT trims; the Premium FWD model will have limited production.
Subaru Solterra (Updated for 2026)
The Solterra, Subaru’s larger compact electric SUV offering, shares the same 74.7-kWh battery pack and platform with Toyota’s bZ4X. It is slightly larger than the Uncharted at 184.6 inches in length and features all-wheel drive with dual motors. The Solterra's estimated range and power are comparable to the Uncharted’s AWD versions, with an estimated range of around 290 miles and power of approximately 338 horsepower.
The Solterra serves as an updated version of the existing Solterra model, with faster charging capabilities and similar technology to the Uncharted.
Subaru E-Outback
Details about the E-Outback, an all-electric version of Subaru’s Outback, are still scarce. However, it is expected to leverage similar electric architecture and expand Subaru’s lineup further. The E-Outback’s battery, range, power, and release date have not been confirmed yet.
Toyota Counterparts
Toyota’s electric offerings will see upgrades similar to Subaru’s for 2026, including propulsion system enhancements and battery usage. The Toyota bZ4X shares its platform and battery technology with the Solterra, while the Subaru Uncharted is based on the Toyota C-HR platform, making the Toyota C-HR EV a direct counterpart.
