Submissions Invited: ALB M&A Rankings for the Year 2025

The Asian Legal Business (ALB) is gearing up to release its annual ranking of the best law firms for Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) in Asia. This comprehensive list, set to be published in the September 2025 issue, will recognise the top M&A firms in each of the 13 jurisdictions covered, including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The methodology behind ALB's rankings is a meticulous process that takes into account various factors. While the exact details of the methodology may not be publicly disclosed, here's a breakdown of the general steps involved:

1. Submission Process: Law firms are invited to submit their deal data and other relevant information for the specified period, which runs from July 2024 to June 2025.

2. Deal Data Analysis: ALB analyzes the deal data to assess the quality and quantity of transactions handled by each firm. This includes both the number and the value of deals.

3. Client Feedback: ALB gathers feedback from clients of the law firms to understand their satisfaction with the services provided.

4. Peer Review: Feedback is also collected from peers in the legal community, providing insights into the firms' reputations and performance.

5. Ranking Criteria: Firms are ranked based on a set of criteria that may include deal volume, deal value, client feedback, peer review, and innovation in M&A transactions.

6. Jurisdictional Focus: The rankings consider the firms' presence, expertise, and performance within each jurisdiction.

7. Final Ranking: The collected data and feedback are processed to produce a final ranking of the best M&A law firms in each jurisdiction.

It's important to note that the rankings will be divided into tiers, with the first tier recognising the strongest M&A firms in each jurisdiction. Additionally, separate tables will be created for domestic firms and international firms in the jurisdictions of China, Japan, and South Korea.

For precise details on the research methodology used in the rankings, consult ALB's official publications or their website. The submission period for this year's ranking is currently open and will close on July 4, 2025. No extensions will be accommodated. Separate submission forms are provided for each jurisdiction.

The research covers both ongoing work and matters that were closed within the specified timeframe. It's also worth mentioning that the rankings do not cover Australia and New Zealand.

ALB will use firm submissions, Thomson Reuters M&A data, interviews, editorial resources, and market suggestions to identify and rank the top firms for M&A in Asia. Interviews will be conducted only if necessary.
