Subscription costs on Spotify are raised by the company
In a move that affects millions of music enthusiasts worldwide, Spotify, the leading music streaming service, announced a price increase for its Premium subscription plans in September 2023. The change will impact users in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, but users in the US and Canada will continue to pay the same monthly fee of $12.
The new monthly fee for most international markets will be approximately €11.99 (around $13.87), marking an increase of about €1 from the previous price of €10.99. The price hike will be implemented progressively, aligning with each subscriber's billing cycle.
The decision to raise prices comes as Spotify plans to invest in new product innovations and features, according to the company's statement. However, the exact details about the specifics of the student, dual, or family subscription price increase are not yet available.
It is important to note that the free version of Spotify, which includes ads, remains unaffected by this price increase. Additionally, other subscription models for students, two users, and families are still available on Spotify.
As of now, Spotify has not provided details on future price levels in Germany or other individual countries. The company also did not disclose any information about the price increase for regions like North America and Oceania.
Spotify currently boasts a total of 696 million users, with 276 million of them being paying subscribers. Despite the price increase, the company remains the clear number one in music streaming.
Subscribers will be informed about the new prices in due course. The price increase for the Premium family plan remains unchanged.
This is Spotify's first price increase in nearly two years, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality music experiences to its users.
