Subway Switzerland Launches Plant-Based Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich
Subway Switzerland has launched a new plant-based teriyaki chicken sandwich in all its 52 locations. The sandwich, a result of a collaboration with Swiss plant-based meat leader Planted, is part of Subway's Swissness strategy to support local producers.
The journey began with a simple Instagram comment from Subway Switzerland, promising to support Planted if it received 10 likes. The comment sparked a partnership that led to the creation of the teriyaki chicken sandwich.
The new sandwich is made from pea protein, pea fibres, rapeseed oil, and salt, fortified with vitamin B12. It contains 24g of protein and over 4g of fibre per 100g, with only 0.6g of saturated fat. It's now available every Saturday as the Sub of the Day, priced at 6.90 francs ($8.70).
This is not Subway's first foray into meat analogues. It has previously partnered with Beyond Meat, The Vegetarian Butcher, Nestlé-owned Harvest Gourmet, and CP Foods's Meat-Zero for plant-based meat options.
Subway's collaboration with Planted is a step towards offering more sustainable and locally sourced news. The new teriyaki sandwich is now available nationwide, with more product launches planned as part of Subway's Swissness strategy.
