Summary of Events: Reflection on the Year That Was 2023

In a series of releases throughout 2023 and 2024, Boris FX has showcased its commitment to advancing visual effects technology with the introduction of AI-enhanced precision and automation, as well as expanded creative tools and performance optimizations.

The year began with the release of Sapphire 2023.5, a major update to Boris FX’s suite of visual effects plugins. This release, optimised for Apple M-series silicon Macs, introduced an updated LensFlare and Flare Designer, a new PixelSort digital glitch art effect, a WhipLash transition, shape animation tools within the Effect and Transition Builder, and a redesigned Mocha Essentials workspace.

In April, Boris FX expanded its suite with the addition of CrumplePop, an AI-driven audio restoration tool for editors. Later in August, SynthEyes, a standalone 3D camera tracking application, joined the Boris FX family.

SynthEyes 2025.5, released in 2025, is a significant upgrade to the 3D camera tracking application. It features AI-assisted motion estimation for precise and efficient camera solves, offering a practical alternative to traditional feature-based tracking. Other new features include quicker scene setup, a robust Lens Workflow export for reliable cross-application use, and a Parent Mesh to Tracker function that accelerates layout and iteration.

Meanwhile, Boris FX continued to enhance its visual effects suite. Sapphire 2024.53, released in June, introduced AI/ML creative tools, performance optimizations, and expanded effects capabilities. Key new features include an updated LensFlare and Flare Designer, a new PixelSort digital glitch art effect, a WhipLash transition, shape animation tools within the Effect and Transition Builder, and a redesigned Mocha Essentials workspace.

The Boris FX Hub, a user-friendly platform for installing, managing licenses, and staying updated on releases, was launched in October and is available for download on both Windows and Mac. Active Boris FX Suite subscribers gain free access to the premium downloads of all Essential training series.

Throughout the year, Boris FX also released several other products, including Mocha Pro 2023, Silhouette 2023.5, Particle Illusion Standalone, Continuum FCP: 2023.5, CrumplePop 2023.5, Mocha VEGAS, Continuum FCP - Lens Flares, Continuum FCP - Light Flicker, Optics 2024, and updates to the Boris FX Suite and SynthEyes.

Particle Illusion Standalone was re-released for free in May, while the 2024 release of Continuum introduced a new DeNoise ML effect, an UpRes ML effect, and the ability to generate custom AI sprites inside Particle Illusion.

Artists using Boris FX products contributed to various popular productions, including The Last Of Us, Ted Lasso, Hawkeye, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and YouTuber Jonkari P’s meme videos with over 115 million views.
