Tech Company Cloud Software Group Acquires Data Management Provider Arctera
Cloud Software Group, a leading technology company, has announced the acquisition of Arctera, a data management and protection provider. The acquisition, set to close during Q4 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, is a strategic move aimed at bolstering Cloud Software Group's portfolio and global presence.
Arctera, founded in 2024, is a result of the merger of Veritas Technologies' Enterprise Data Protection division with Cohesity. The company has inherited executive leadership and key technologies from Veritas, including well-known products like Backup Exec, InfoScale, and the Insight Platform.
The company specialises in data management and protection, offering solutions across three main business units: Data Compliance, Data Protection, and Data Resilience. Its product suite serves virtual and physical environments by simplifying backup, disaster recovery, and data compliance. Arctera empowers organisations to manage their data securely throughout its lifecycle, catering to tens of thousands of customers globally, including about 70% of Fortune 100 companies.
Arctera's Insight Platform has recently been enhanced to support large language model (LLM) logging and AI data protection, enabling enterprises to capture, monitor, and contain AI-generated data and reduce compliance risks.
Arctera boasts an impressive annual revenue of over $400 million and is recognised as a mature business with strong margins and a substantial customer base worldwide. Upon completion of the acquisition, Arctera will operate as a standalone business unit within Cloud Software Group.
Cloud Software Group plans to fund the deal using cash on its balance sheet. The company's global resources, industry-leading portfolio, and seasoned leadership team will better position Arctera, according to Tom Krause, Cloud Software Group's CEO, who described the acquisition as an "exciting milestone" for the company.
Arctera's headquarters are located in Pleasanton, California. Lawrence Wong, Arctera's CEO, reiterated the company's commitment to continue helping customers manage one of their most valuable assets: data.
This acquisition follows other significant acquisitions in the tech industry, such as Snowflake's acquisition of Crunchy Data to target PostgreSQL gains, Palo Alto Networks' acquisition of CyberArk as part of a major identity security push, and LevelBlue's positioning as the largest pure-play MSSP due to the Trustwave acquisition.
