Tesla introduces its first Supercharger station in India, with a second showroom set to debut shortly.
Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced its expansion plans in India, focusing on the strategic metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi. The company has already opened its first Supercharger site in Mumbai and plans to establish multiple charging stations in other cities as well.
Mumbai's Supercharger Site Now Operational
The inaugural Tesla showroom and first Supercharger station in Mumbai are now operational. Located at One BKC in the Bandra Kurla Complex, the Supercharger site offers fast charging capabilities for Tesla vehicles. The accompanying Experience Center features digital displays and showcases Tesla vehicles, emphasizing a long-term presence in India.
Delhi's Upcoming Showroom and Charging Stations
A second showroom in New Delhi is expected to open soon, with four charging stations (Superchargers and destination chargers) planned for the Delhi region. This expansion strategy aims to strengthen Tesla's market presence in northern India.
Model Y Deliveries in India
Tesla is currently focusing on import-based sales, with no immediate plans to establish a manufacturing facility in India. However, the company is expected to begin Model Y deliveries in India as soon as Q3 2025. The initial offering will be the 500 km-range Model Y variant, followed by a longer-range 622 km model in Q4.
The first wave of Model Y deliveries will be focused on Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurgaon. As the expansion of Tesla's charging infrastructure continues throughout the September quarter, additional Supercharger sites are expected to be established in Thane, Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, Aerocity, Saket, Golf Course Road, and Noida.
Rapid Expansion in India
Tesla's entry into the Indian market is rapidly picking up speed. The recent rollout of Superchargers and showrooms in India marks a pivotal moment for Tesla in one of the world's fastest-growing EV markets. The company is also leasing showrooms in Delhi and Gurgaon, indicating a strengthening market presence in northern India.
