Tesla Introduces Model 3 Tow Package in North America

Tesla has made a significant stride in expanding the capabilities of its Model 3 electric vehicles with the introduction of the Model 3 Tow Package in North America. This factory-approved solution marks the first official towing option for the 2024+ Model 3, offering a robust towing hitch capable of handling mid-weight trailers.

The key features of the Model 3 Tow Package include a heavy-duty rear tow hitch, designed for towing trailers with weights similar to the Model Y, which boasts a tow rating of approximately 3,500 lbs.

The package, priced at $1,765 in Canada and $1,300 in the United States, includes shipping to a Tesla Service Center and full installation. It comprises a high-strength steel tow bar, a 2" hitch receiver, a North American-standard 7-pin connector, a trailer harness, and a dedicated Tow Mode software package.

While the exact official maximum towing capacity for the Model 3 with this tow package has not been explicitly stated, it is expected to align closely with the Model Y's 3,500 lbs limit. It's worth noting that Tesla’s software and safety features related to towing on Model 3 may still evolve, as seen with other models like the Cybertruck introducing “Smart Warning System” features for towing safety in recent software updates.

The Model 3 Tow Package is compatible with both Rear-Wheel and All-Wheel Drive variants of the Model 3, produced after the Highland refresh. However, it's important to note that the package is not compatible with older Model 3s or models produced before 2024.

Prior to this, Tesla drivers in Canada and the U.S. had to rely on third-party options like the EcoHitch stealth hitch. The official package now brings a factory-installed, robust towing hitch capability to Model 3 owners, enabling moderate towing tasks similar to the Tesla Model Y.

The North American launch of the tow package follows the announcement in Australia and New Zealand. Tesla customers in North America can now enjoy the same utility and versatility as drivers in Europe, Australia, and Asia, where the tow package has been available since 2019.

However, the tow package is currently limited to North America and specific 2024+ Model 3 trims. It is not available in markets other than North America, Australia, Europe, and Asia as of now.

In summary, the Model 3 Tow Package brings a factory-installed, robust towing hitch capability to Model 3 owners, enabling moderate towing tasks similar to Tesla Model Y but without a fully detailed towing capacity yet publicly confirmed. Safety and towing assistance software are expected to improve through Tesla’s ongoing updates.

The Model 3 Tow Package, available in North America, also includes various technology features, such as a dedicated Tow Mode software package, enhancing the vehicle's towing capabilities. This development in the automotive industry aligns with Tesla's aggressive expansion in the transportation sector, aiming to provide finance solutions, like transportation and towing options, to its customers. The package's introduction in North America also signifies a step towards possible future global rollouts in the finance and transportation segments of the industry.
