Tesla's Model X SUV 60D experiences premature demise, with the base Model X now priced at £76,500.
Tesla Discontinues Model X 60D, Introduces New Entry-Level Model
Tesla has announced the discontinuation of the Model X 60D after just three months on the market, and the introduction of a new entry-level Model X. The change comes as Tesla aims to cater to customer demand for more power and range.
Launched in July, the Model X 60D was priced at £64,000, making it Tesla's entry-level SUV. The vehicle offered a decent range and 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds, but its performance was limited by software compared to the headline-grabbing acceleration of the P100D with Ludicrous mode.
The new entry-level Model X, priced at £64,000, boasts 60 kWh of power and can accelerate from 0-60mph in around 6.0 seconds. The new model also has a range of 130mph, providing a more efficient driving experience for customers.
The discontinuation of the 60D means that there is no more budget-friendly option for the Model X. The cheapest Model X now available is the 75D, priced at £76,500. This marks a £10,000 increase in price for customers looking for an entry-level Model X.
Tesla claims the discontinuation of the 60D is due to customer demand for more power and range. This shift in focus is not unexpected, as Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has also revealed the Tesla Model S D as a four-wheel-drive version of the Model S. The Model S now offers the Model S 75 as its entry-level model, with the Model S 60 and 60D dropped from the range again. In P85D guises, the Model S D can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, offering a significant increase in performance compared to the discontinued Model X 60D.
The Model X with Falcon Wing doors, originally introduced by Tesla in 2016, had a starting MSRP around $86,380 in 2025, with prices for the Tri-Motor Plaid version reaching about $116,990 in Europe. The top model Tesla Model X with Falcon Wing doors offers up to 682bhp, providing a luxurious and powerful driving experience for customers.
The discontinuation of the Model X 60D may be a disappointment for some customers, but Tesla's focus on providing more power and range in their vehicles is a testament to their commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. With the introduction of the new entry-level Model X, Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and offers customers a wide range of options to suit their needs and preferences.
