In the Republic of Guinea and Mauritius, blockchain technology is increasingly being embraced by governments as a means to support digital transformation and financial inclusion.

In Guinea, Tether, a leading stablecoin company, has partnered with the government to promote blockchain education and expand the use of stablecoins like USDT. This partnership aims to facilitate financial inclusion, remittances, and local commerce, particularly benefiting Guinea’s unbanked population who can now leverage crypto as a hedge against inflation and for cross-border trade. While some regulatory gaps remain, the country is well-positioned to benefit from stablecoin-driven digital financial services, with the ultimate goal of creating a decentralized and inclusive economy.

Tether will collaborate with the Cité des Sciences et de l'Innovation de Guinée, the country's main technological research institute, on blockchain education, driving the adoption of blockchain technology and supporting the digital transformation of the nation. M. Djiba Diakité, the chief of staff to the Republic of Guinea's president, expressed his support for the partnership, stating, "[Insert quote from M. Djiba Diakité]". The details of the partnership were shared in a press release on Tether's website, and other blockchain educational programs are set to be rolled out across the Republic of Guinea's public and private sectors.

Meanwhile, Mauritius has exemplified blockchain adoption through its eVerify service, a government-driven blockchain-based system used for diploma verification and other administrative processes. This system has been part of Mauritius’s digital transformation efforts to leverage blockchain to improve transparency, efficiency, and trust in public services. The nation launched a nationwide blockchain-based eVerify service in 2023 to enhance the verification of government-issued certificates, acting as a pioneering example of practical blockchain applications supporting e-governance.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether's CEO, emphasized the impact of these initiatives, stating, "[Insert quote from Paolo Ardoino]". These initiatives contribute to Africa’s broader digital transformation, helping governments and populations transition towards a more inclusive, efficient, and transparent digital economy underpinned by blockchain technology. Guinea is advancing its crypto infrastructure to boost financial inclusion, while Mauritius uses blockchain in public service delivery, both reflecting diverse but complementary approaches to blockchain adoption on the continent.

It is worth noting that Ghana, too, had expressed intentions to become the first blockchain-powered government in Africa last year. However, details remain unclear, and little has emerged since then, especially with a new administration. Despite this, Tether intends to share 'international knowledge and best practices' on technological innovation with the Republic of Guinea, laying down the groundwork for the country's blockchain initiative.

As Africa continues to embrace digital transformation, initiatives like Tether's partnership with Guinea and Mauritius's eVerify service will undoubtedly pave the way for a more inclusive, efficient, and transparent digital economy across the continent.

Tether's partnership with Guinea's Cité des Sciences et de l'Innovation de Guinée is set to drive blockchain education and technological innovation, contributing to Africa's broader digital transformation. In Mauritius, the eVerify service, a blockchain-based system for diploma verification and administrative processes, reflects the nation's commitment to using technology for improving transparency, efficiency, and trust in public services.
