Top-rated Over-ear Headphones, Ranked from Test Results
In the latest issue of Computer Bild (18/2025), a comprehensive test was conducted to evaluate the top models of various headphone manufacturers. The focus of the test was on sound quality, operation, mobility, wearing comfort, and supplied accessories.
Three over-ear headphones, priced under 500 euros, emerged as the top-rated models in this test.
The Sonos Ace headphones, priced at approximately 360 euros, were rated as the overall test winner with a grade of 1.2. They deliver both fine and powerful bass-heavy sound with high quality. The sound can be customized via the Sonos app, and volume adjustment is easy through a slider.
The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S3, priced around 320 euros, was awarded the "price-performance winner" with a grade of 1.3. The sound is clean and balanced, and their noise-cancelling features effectively block out ambient noise.
The JBL Tour One M3 Smart TX headphones, priced around 400 euros, placed third with a grade of 1.3. They impressed with a very long battery life of nearly 80 hours and include a transmitter for easier control without needing a smartphone.
These three models stood out in the evaluation for sound quality, noise cancelling, ease of use, and battery performance within the under 500-euro category.
Out of the eight top models, four received the rating "very good". The test results did not specify which models received the rating "good" or "satisfactory".
All three top-rated models are suitable for both outdoor and indoor use and direct sound directly into the ear, offering a comfortable and immersive listening experience.
