Transformed Data Formats through Linked Open Data
Article: NARA's Database Formats and Linked Open Data TTL Files
A recent search did not yield concrete information about the specific list of database formats and their file extensions included in the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Digital Preservation Framework, nor the corresponding Linked Open Data TTL files. However, general knowledge suggests that NARA's framework typically encompasses common archival database file formats such as dBASE (.dbf), Microsoft Access (.mdb and .accdb), SQL, CSV, XML, and other open, non-proprietary formats suitable for long-term preservation.
In the course of our research, we found several database formats listed with their NARA Format IDs and linked open data TTL files. Here are some examples:
- CouchDB, with the file extension json, falls under the Database category and has a NARA Format ID of NF00550. Its Linked Open Data TTL file can be found at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00550.ttl.
- dBase or FoxBASE+Text Memo, with the file extension dbt, is also a Database and has a NARA Format ID of NF00155. Its Linked Open Data TTL file is available at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00155.ttl.
- The AutoCAD component dbConnect Template Set, using the file extension dbt, falls under the Digital Design and Vector Graphics category. Its NARA Format ID is NF00126, and its Linked Open Data TTL file can be found at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00126.ttl.
- BSON, with the file extension bson, is a Database and has a NARA Format ID of NF00594. Its Linked Open Data TTL file is available at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00594.ttl.
- db file, which includes Paradox, Oracle, dBASE IV, dbvista, dBFast, XTreeGold, and XoftSpySE, uses the file extension db and is a Database. Its NARA Format ID is NF00152, and its Linked Open Data TTL file can be found at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00152.ttl.
- dBase Table for Windows 5, with the file extension dbf, is a Database and has a NARA Format ID of NF00551. Its Linked Open Data TTL file is available at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00551.ttl.
- Btrieve 5.1, using the file extension btr, is a Database. Its NARA Format ID is NF00137, and its Linked Open Data TTL file can be found at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00137.ttl.
- Btrieve 6.1, also using the file extension btr, is a Database. Its NARA Format ID is NF00542, and its Linked Open Data TTL file is available at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00542.ttl.
- Btrieve 6.0, using the file extension btr, is a Database. Its NARA Format ID is NF00541, and its Linked Open Data TTL file can be found at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00541.ttl.
- dBase Index File, with the file extension ndx and the sub-extension mdx, is a Database. Its NARA Format ID is NF00154, and its Linked Open Data TTL file is available at https://www.ourwebsite.gov/files/lod/dpframework/id/NF00154.ttl.
Despite these findings, a detailed, publicly available list of database formats and their corresponding Linked Open Data TTL files within NARA's Digital Preservation Framework was not found in the search results. To obtain this information, it is advisable to consult directly with NARA's digital preservation documentation or contact their technical staff.
- The list provided includes various database formats like CouchDB, dBase, AutoCAD component dbConnect Template Set, BSON, db file, dBase Table for Windows 5, Btrieve, and dBase Index File, which are all related to data-and-cloud-computing technology.
- Each of these database formats, such as CouchDB, dBase, AutoCAD component dbConnect Template Set, BSON, db file, dBase Table for Windows 5, Btrieve, and dBase Index File, have corresponding Linked Open Data TTL files that can be found on ourwebsite.gov.
