The gaming world was abuzz at this year's Gamescom, held in Cologne's Messe halls, as iMP Tech unveiled the Mini Arcade Pro - a new accessory that transforms the Nintendo Switch, including the Switch 2, into a mini arcade machine. Scheduled for release in October 2025, the Mini Arcade Pro is expected to hit the shelves in time for the 2025 holiday season.

The Mini Arcade Pro boasts a design that emulates the classic arcade feel, with buttons mapped as per Nintendo's Pro Controller and a red-topped joystick that can emulate digital or analogue input with a switch. The buttons on the Mini Arcade Pro have a clicky, chunky, and classic arcade feel, making gaming sessions a nostalgic journey back to the 90s.

The Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Classics selection, playable on the Mini Arcade Pro, includes some of the console's most revered games. From Super Mario 64 to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, these 90s classics offer a potential echo of the classic arcade's heyday. Additionally, the selection also features games from the SNES and NES, expanding the retro gaming experience.

The larger screen of the newer Nintendo Switch makes better use of the Mini Arcade Pro's scale, providing an immersive gaming experience. The Mini Arcade Pro also comes with a built-in physical switch for determining whether the control stick is set as d-pad, left stick, or right stick.

The Mini Arcade Pro could be a great addition for those who love retro gaming and Nintendo. Its potential to provide a nostalgic gaming experience, coupled with its compact design, makes it a suitable gift for someone who enjoys retro gaming and Nintendo.

However, pricing information for the Mini Arcade Pro is not yet confirmed, and it is expected to go on sale around November. The new Xbox handheld console was also a headline-grabber at Gamescom, but the Mini Arcade Pro, with its retro game offerings, could potentially steal the spotlight for Nintendo fans.
