Uber & Joby Aviation Team Up to Revolutionize Urban Air Travel with Electric Air Taxis

Uber and Joby Aviation have joined forces to revolutionise urban air travel. The partnership will see Uber users able to book Joby's S4 electric air taxis, starting with Dubai in 2026, and eventually connecting major cities worldwide. The S4 can carry one pilot and four passengers, with ample space for luggage.

Uber has already invested $125 million in Joby, with the companies collaborating since 2019. Joby acquired Uber's Elevate unit in 2020, further solidifying their partnership. Currently, Uber users can book Blade helicopter trips directly in the Uber app. Blade, which offers short trips in the New York City metropolitan area and southern Europe, will also expand to include Joby's S4 electric air taxi in the future.

The S4 eVTOL air taxi boasts impressive specifications. It can reach a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h), making short-range, fully electric off-highway journeys a reality. The first passenger flights are expected to start in Dubai by 2026, with plans to connect cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, and Dubai.

Uber and Joby Aviation's partnership aims to transform urban air travel, making it more efficient and sustainable. With the S4 electric air taxi, passengers can expect faster, greener journeys between cities. The first taste of this future is set to arrive in Dubai by 2026.
