Unexpected Turn: Apple's Intelligence Capabilities Claud Coincide with Waning iPhone Sales

A study carried out by a platform dedicated to pricing pre-owned tech devices revealed that artificial intelligence isn't usually a key consideration when consumers decide to purchase a new smartphone.

The research was undertaken by SellCell, a platform that provides insights on tech trends, with participation from over 2,000 smartphone users. More than half of the respondents owned an iPhone, many of which featured AI support. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16/iPhone 16 Pro are the only Apple models to come with integrated Apple Intelligence right from launch.

The preferred AI features among users primarily revolve around those that enhance productivity. Utilities such as automated content creation, condensed notifications, and priority messaging were regularly employed on iPhones equipped with Apple Intelligence. The survey also included responses from Samsung users, who have been leveraging Galaxy AI since its debut on the Galaxy S24 earlier this year. Samsung enthusiasts rave about Circle to Search, a particularly noteworthy addition to the Android ecosystem. They also make frequent use of the AI-enhanced photo editing feature available in the Samsung Gallery app, known as Photo Assist.

iPhone users express a greater desire for AI-focused interfaces than their Android-utilizing counterparts. Approximately 17% of Apple Intelligence users expressed a willingness to switch to a Samsung device if Galaxy AI saw significant improvement. Moreover, Apple Intelligence users are more likely to subscribe to services leveraging these features compared to Android users. However, around 90% of users on both platforms refused the prospect of paying to utilize AI services.

Generally, the surveyed smartphone users remained unimpressed by current AI offerings. An astonishing 73% of Apple Intelligence users expressed contentment without AI for now, while 87% of Galaxy AI users found it marginally valuable.

If anything, these survey findings suggest that users are eager for more helpful AI features, particularly those that help streamline note-taking and information management. The faster AI and its algorithms can demonstrate their ability to reduce workload, the sooner they'll convince us that the AI era has officially begun.

In the future, we might see a significant shift in user preferences, with more Apple users considering switching to Samsung if Galaxy AI significantly improves. Also, as technology advances, users are expressing a growing eagerness for AI features that can streamline tasks like note-taking and information management.
