Unveiling the Ensō Prime Lens Series by ARRI
The film equipment manufacturing giant, ARRI, has unveiled its latest offering - the Ensō Prime lens series. This new line of lenses is designed specifically for corporate and commercial content creators, promising exceptional image quality in various conditions.
At the heart of this series is the Ensō Creative Adapter, which is included in the Ensō Vintage Elements kit. This kit enables creators to customise their lenses, creating unique looks for their projects. The Ensō Prime lens series boasts a smooth, balanced native look that can be further customised with the Ensō Vintage Elements.
One of the standout features of the Ensō Prime lenses is their stunning bokeh and falloff. These lenses deliver sharp images in the centre with a stronger detuned effect at the edges, creating a distinctive look that sets them apart. The Ensō Vintage Elements, interchangeable optics that attach magnetically to the back of Ensō lenses, further enhance this effect.
The Ensō Vintage Elements produce images with smeary, soft-edged bokeh and Petzval-like image swirl at the corners of the frame. They also have negative elements that create diffuse centres and bright outlines for a more intrusive feel in out-of-focus background highlights.
Close focus is another significant feature of the Ensō Prime lenses, with a magnification ratio of 1:4 on most focal lengths. The core set of Ensō Prime lenses includes six prime lenses - 18 mm, 24 mm, 32 mm, 47 mm, 75 mm, and 105 mm, as well as the Ensō Vintage Elements Kit. Additionally, the series includes wide-angle lenses such as the 10.5 mm and 14 mm, and the telephoto 250 mm (350/500 mm with its included 1.4x/2x extenders).
The Ensō Vintage Elements also have encoded chips that convey metadata about shifts in focal length, T-stop, and focus to the camera and on-set monitors, making external lens tuning quick and easy. The Ensō Vintage Elements Kit includes three retaining rings.
Ensō lenses combine German precision engineering with Japanese optical excellence, ensuring a high-quality product. The gear rings are in the same position on all 14 Ensō focal lengths, most of which are T2.1 with a 95-mm front diameter.
Minimising breathing is another key feature of the Ensō Prime lenses. This means that focus racks have no discernible impact on framing, making it easier for creators to achieve the desired look.
The core set of ARRI Ensō Prime lenses will start shipping in November. With its unique features and high-quality construction, the Ensō Prime lens series is set to become a valuable tool for corporate and commercial content creators.
