Update on Google Photos introduces a space for users to showcase creativity
Google has recently rolled out an update to its Photos app, introducing a new Create tab that serves as a central hub for all creative and AI-driven features. This update aims to consolidate tools in one place, simplifying access and enhancing user experience.
The Create tab, represented by a paintbrush icon, can be found nestled between the Search and Collections tabs on both Android and iOS devices [1][2][4]. This new addition offers a range of key features and functions designed to bring your photos and memories to life in a seamless and streamlined manner.
Key Features of the Create Tab
Photo-to-Video
The Photo-to-Video feature allows users to convert static photos into six-second videos with options for subtle movements or random, playful, or dramatic animations [1][3][4].
Animations
Turn selected photos or videos into GIFs with the Animations feature [1][4].
Cinematic Photos
Add a smooth 3D motion effect to still images with the Cinematic Photos feature, creating depth and visual interest [2][4].
Collage
Combine multiple photos into one stylish layout for easy sharing and creative presentation with the Collage section, which features a carousel with 16 template options [1][2][4].
Highlight Videos
The Highlight Videos section automatically generates music-backed video montages from your photos and videos, suggesting people, locations, and activities [2][4].
Remix
Transform your photos into various artistic styles such as comics, sketches, anime, or 3D animations with the Remix feature, which is still rolling out [2][3].
The Create tab also features a plus (+) icon in its top bar, which opens a dropdown menu offering many of these creation options for quicker access without scrolling [1].
The tab incorporates AI-powered editing tools such as Magic Eraser, Photo Blur, and Reimagine for fixing backgrounds and objects, helping users to get creative with more ease directly within Google Photos [3].
Availability and Rollout
The new features will be available to both Android users and iOS users. While the Create tab isn't widely available yet, users may need to check back if they don't see it immediately [6]. The Google Photos Create tab is currently rolling out with version 7.40 on Android devices [5].
It's important to note that users can create Collages or Highlight videos using the older Google Photos app without waiting for the new Create tab [7]. However, the full range of creative tools will be consolidated into one easy-to-access place with the arrival of the Create tab [8].
Despite the wealth of tools it offers, the Create tab is currently described as "a bit hectic" due to the variety of options [9]. Nonetheless, this centralized location for creative editing, animation, and video generation features using AI is set to make the Google Photos app a more powerful tool for bringing your photos and memories to life.
