Update scraps "exploit allowing NPCs to demolish other players' structures" in New Dune: Awakening, due to player complaints regarding "raid on bases" and "griefing" in the survival MMO game.

In an effort to enhance gameplay and improve balance, Funcom, the developer of Dune: Awakening, is set to release the 1.1.20 update on August 12. This update targets two significant issues that have caused problems for players in the past: NPCs damaging player bases and the exploit involving unsupported Pentashields.

Firstly, the update addresses an exploit where NPCs could damage player bases in certain zones, leading to lost bases and equipment for players. With the 1.1.20 update, NPCs will no longer be able to damage player-owned buildings or placeables in PvE areas, effectively preventing NPC attacks from harming bases improperly.

Secondly, the update fixes a bug involving Pentashields, a type of base shield, where players could build unsupported or floating Pentashields. The update now requires proper structural support, causing any unsupported Pentashield bases to collapse when the patch goes live. This change prevents players from exploiting the shield mechanics for invulnerability by building "floating" shield-only structures.

Key highlights related to the exploit and base destruction fixes in the 1.1.20 patch include:

  • NPCs can no longer damage player buildings or placeables in PvE zones.
  • Fix for Pentashields without wall attachments collapsing. Bases using unsupported Pentashields will be destroyed unless rebuilt properly.

In addition to these fixes, the 1.1.20 patch brings new content such as a Sandbike variant, improved resource management buttons, and enhanced base copying features.

The issue of players' bases being destroyed by NPCs has been a recurring problem in Dune: Awakening. One Reddit user shared their experience of having their subfief console destroyed by an NPC, resulting in the loss of all their belongings. Another Reddit post discusses the change in 1.1.20, with a replier stating that it makes sense because raiding bases in PvE areas is not part of the game.

The exploit involved luring NPCs to an unpowered base in Haggan Basin, which could then damage the base and allow looting. A screenshot of an event log shows a player's subfief console being destroyed by an NPC in Dune: Awakening.

The upcoming 1.1.20 update is part of a larger effort by Funcom to improve balance, fix exploits, and enhance survival realism in Dune: Awakening. For full patch details, players are encouraged to refer to Funcom’s official patch notes.
