Valley Transit is implementing Wisgo as its new payment method across their entire bus system, starting from August 1.
Valley Transit Introduces Fare Capping with Wisgo Payment System
Starting August 1, Valley Transit will launch the Wisgo payment system, aiming to make public transit more affordable for regular riders. Powered by Umo, the system features fare capping, a mechanism that limits the total amount a rider pays daily and monthly.
For regular fare riders, the daily cap is set at $4 (equivalent to the cost of two rides), and the monthly cap stands at $60. Once a rider reaches these caps, no additional fare is charged for further rides within the same day or month, effectively offering unlimited rides for the capped price period.
Riders can pay their fares using the Umo Mobility app or a reloadable Wisgo card, both of which can be loaded with funds using credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. To pay, riders simply need to scan their mobile app or tap their Wisgo card on boarding, and fares are automatically deducted and tracked towards the cap.
"We're excited about the introduction of Wisgo," says Ron McDonald, Valley Transit General Manager. "It's designed to make transit more accessible, affordable, and rider-friendly."
While cash payments are still accepted across all Valley Transit routes, riders will not receive the benefits of fare capping. The Wisgo system is intended to encourage more transit use while controlling rider costs, as the more a rider uses the system, the more they can potentially save on fares.
Riders are encouraged to download the Umo Mobility app and familiarise themselves with the Wisgo system ahead of its launch on August 1. With Wisgo, Valley Transit aims to revolutionise the way people pay for public transit, making it more convenient and cost-effective.
