Vorpommern-Greifswald Ranks Ninth in Heimatcheck, Needs Energy & Network Improvements

Vorpommern-Greifswald has placed ninth out of ten regions in a recent Heimatcheck survey, scoring 5.7 out of ten points. While the region is praised for its high quality of life, challenges in energy, climate, and network coverage have been highlighted as areas needing improvement.

Poor network coverage, particularly in rural areas, is seen as a significant barrier to economic and social development. Residents have expressed a strong desire for improved digital infrastructure to support growth and connectivity.

Energy supply has been identified as a problem area with substantial room for improvement. Many participants in the survey criticized the handling of renewable energies in the region. Despite this, Vorpommern-Greifswald is committed to sustainable building practices, following the Heringsdorf model, and promoting energy-efficient technologies like photovoltaics and air-source heat pumps. The region is also investing in climate-friendly strategies, such as restoring seagrass meadows as natural CO2 sinks along the Baltic coast by 2033, and participating in a climate compatibility concept for planning climate-neutral development.

Vorpommern-Greifswald faces challenges in energy, climate, and network coverage, but residents appreciate the high quality of life the region offers. There is a clear desire for improvement in digital infrastructure and climate policy, with residents hoping for a stronger focus on climate goals and more transparency in implementation.
