A Blow to the Short Kings: Tinder Introduces a Height Filter

The dating world is in an uproar after Tinder unveiled a new filter allowing women to sift through potential suitors based on their height.

Guess what, folks? It's not about the length of their fingers or their six-pack abs (although those are probably next on the list).

Am I speaking from personal experience? Nope, I'm a family man and haven't graced the digital dating scene for over six years. But someone's got to stick up for the under-6-feet folks!

It's intriguing that we're introducing height filters into the public eye, while filters for other physical characteristics, such as weight, are still shunned, fearing the wrath of the body-positivity crew.

I mean, who wouldn't want a partner who can carry them on their back like a backpack during a hike? (Just kidding, sort of).

Don't get me wrong, people have preferences. I'm a towering 5-foot-10, so I wouldn't be overjoyed if someone implemented a height filter that disadvantaged me. But hey, in the world of dating apps, it seems fair game.

It's no secret that several women fancy their men on the taller side. That's all well and good.

But couldn't we at least even the odds a bit?

If Jane prefers a man who's 6-2 with a six-figure salary, why can't Tom have a preference for a woman who fits into a size 5 dress?

But wait, there's more! My colleague hilariously proposed integrating a weight filter into Tinder.

A weight filter can be a dicey proposition, considering that the same weight can manifest differently on varying heights. Two people weighing 150 pounds, one standing at 5-1 and the other at 5-8, look markedly distinct. Or, as she so elegantly put it, "Donald Trump and Derrick Henry might share the same weight (allegedly), but those... those are not the same."

Despite its flaws, it's progress, right?

But why stop at weight? Let's rock the dating app world!

How about eye color, shoe size, or even income filters?

Wouldn't a filter for tattoos or piercings be a game-changer?

Diving deeper, potential filters beyond height and weight could include: hair color and style, eye color, body type, skin tone, physical features, tattoos and piercings, and disability and accessibility. Additionally, non-physical filters, such as hobbies and interests, lifestyle choices, and income, could enhance user experience, leading to more compatible matches[1]. However, it's essential to ensure that these new filters don't propagate discrimination or reinforce societal biases.

In the realm of potential dating app filters, fashion-and-beauty characteristics could be considered, such as hair color and style, eye color, and body type.

Moreover, technology advances could also lead to filters for tattoos and piercings, providing a more tailored user experience.
