Zimbabwe Launches National Cybersecurity Training Programme
In a significant move to bolster the country's digital security sector, the National Cybersecurity Training Programme was officially launched in Zimbabwe on August 2025. The initiative, powered by the Cyberus Foundation and backed by the Ministry of ICT, aims to train 10,000 youths in key cybersecurity skills.
The launch event, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Harare, was graced by the Honourable Minister of ICT, Hon. T. Mavetera, who emphasized that the programme represents a strategic step in realizing Zimbabwe's Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
The Honourable Minister's keynote address was followed by remarks from a representative from the Russian Embassy and keynote speeches from Mr. Dmitry Grigoriev, Director General of KOMIB, and Mr. Sergey Andreev, Managing Partner at Cyberus. The event was also attended by government officials, international partners, and ICT stakeholders.
Scholars participating in the programme will get access to training in cybersecurity fundamentals, ethical hacking, digital forensics, threat detection, and AI-driven security solutions. The programme also includes CTF tournaments and other cybersecurity competitions to provide hands-on experience.
The initiative is free and open to anyone interested, from beginners to IT professionals. It focuses on building capabilities from the basics up, allowing participants to develop skills even with limited prior knowledge. The programme emphasizes practical skills in areas like ethical hacking and cyber-attack simulations, preparing participants for job opportunities and internships in the cybersecurity sector.
The launch of the selection for Zimbabwean students to the National Cybersecurity Training Programme starts later this year. Top-performing students will have an opportunity to join the programme, which is a collaborative initiative between the Cyberus Foundation and KOMIB, the Centre for Coordination of Public-Private Partnerships in International Information Security, Russia.
By equipping the nation’s youth with advanced cybersecurity skills, the programme aims to create a skilled cyber workforce, boost employment, and strengthen Zimbabwe’s cyber resilience in the face of increasing digital threats. The initiative also ties into the development of a $100 million CyberDom hub, indicating significant investment in Zimbabwe's digital security sector.
With this initiative, the Cyberus Foundation and the Ministry of ICT are taking a significant step towards nurturing young talent and training skilled ICT professionals equipped to meet the challenges of the digital era. The National Cybersecurity Training Programme is set to play a crucial role in Zimbabwe's digital transformation.
